New Brass Hardware for Our Kitchen Cabinets

New Brass Hardware for Our Kitchen Cabinets

It’s been said that patience is a virtue and I’m here to say that I’ve found that to be true, especially in the home decor realm. If I’m going to spend time and money on a change in my home, I need to know that it’s going to be worth it. I don’t make decisions until I’ve thoroughly done my research and sometimes that means the process can take a long time, but it’s always worth not having regrets later!

Here’s a quick recap on our kitchen updates so far:

Kitchen Cabinet Paint Color Reveal {Before & After}

Our kitchen cabinets already had some brushed nickel pulls with a 5” center to center measurement, but the bars actually hung over the bases, making them look longer. This is what our cabinets looked like after the renovations, but before having them painted:

This is important to note because the new hardware I chose would stop right at the 5” marks. It’s a personal preference, but I really can’t stand when my clothing gets caught on hardware ends that stick out. I purposely chose a closed bar for our kitchen.

The reason all of the cabinets and drawers have the same bar pulls is because filling in the holes and sanding over would only be able to trick the eye so much. I’m sure we’d still be able to see the marks and that would drive me nuts. So, that’s the reasoning behind looking for the specific size that I did.

The hardest part about finding the right hardware though, was that there are so many different shades of “gold” and “brass” out there, that you never really know what you’re going to get until you see it in person. Our kitchen island pendants have a band of deep gold/brass around them. I did not want a light satin brass look for the hardware and that seemed to be the most popular finish of the ones around my price point. I had to order 37 pulls, so a few extra dollars really adds up. My practical nature would not allow me to spend any more than I did on some decorative metal handles for our kitchen.

I found these that are almost exactly the same pull, except they have square backplates around each end.

I accidentally clicked on the wrong size when I ordered them at first, so the smaller, 3 inch end to end bars showed up. I was bummed that I had to wait a little longer to swap them with the right size, but at least I knew they were going to be a great match!

Just a sidenote, I do not get any commission or credit whatsoever for sharing this hardware with you from Lawless Hardware. I just have to share a good deal when I find one.

These pulls were sold out on several sites and some sellers on Etsy were actually charging almost double than what I paid for them! Beware, shoppers! Don’t settle for the first price you find. Always look around and find the best deal. Why spend more than you have to?

The rest of these photos were taken in the evening when I had a chance to install them. It’s interesting to see how they change color from different angles.

After checking big box stores like Home Depot, Wayfair and Amazon, which were all out of stock, I found these online at Lawless Hardware, a company I had never even heard of before, for a couple dollars less! To my delight, they handled one complaint I had very quickly and pleasantly. I called in to their customer service line and let them know I was missing a pull and two of the pulls I received had quite noticeable flaws. They did not hesitate to immediately ship me three more bar pulls, no questions asked! I would definitely shop with them again.

Here are a few photos of the hardware installed. Please forgive my evening photo shoot! I know that taking photos in daylight is preferred, but I was too anxious to get them installed and to share them with you. I promise to share the full kitchen updates as soon as the last piece to this puzzle is completed.

The cabinet doors below had frosted glass with some type of a faint pattern on them. I am going to swap them out with some gorgeous cane material (at least I think it’s going to be gorgeous in my head!) and possibly add some clear glass just to keep any dust out of the cabinet. I leave my doors wide open pretty often and it’s amazing how much dust and debris comes in.
