I have a little dining room update, finally! I waited for a few months to purchase the right mirror for our dining room. I knew I wanted a large round mirror to hang over the console table in the dining room, but I couldn’t decide what style. Finally, I decided that a black thin frame would match the frame on our Samsung Frame TV in the living room. I also chose matte black door handles and curtain rods throughout our home, so a matte black frame just made sense because it would balance everything out.

I got this 42” mirror for around $200 on the best sale I’ve seen yet. Timing is everything!

It is big and heavy, but it only has one hole for mounting. Because the odds were low that I was going to hang right into a stud, I had to use a heavy duty hanging device. Enter the metal molly screw. It’s better than a drywall screw because those are just made out of plastic and can easily bend.

I used a drill bit just large enough to shove the metal molly through. You definitely don’t want to make the hole too big or the molly will not fit snugly. After using my cordless drill to tighten the molly grips into the wall, I unscrewed the screw just a quarter of an inch out so that the mirror hook could rest easily on it. I posted several videos and photos of this process on my Instagram stories, so head over to my Instagram account and take a look at the story highlight labeled “MIRROR”. :)

This is what our dining room looked like before. It had two sets of curtains on the window to provide enough privacy at night until I got my gorgeous roman shades installed. There was nothing on the wall and this space was just filled with leftover decor.

Here is our dining room after I mounted the round black mirror with a cute faux hook on top for added detail.

The decor on the console table was quickly thrown together so I could snap a few photos of this space looking half way decent lol! I plan to make some changes here, as well.

Instead of the symmetry of two matching lamps on this table, I removed one and will fill the void on the right with a nice jar or maybe a vase with greenery.

And there was my cute plant I got from our kitchen cabinet painter, Jennifer. It’s still doing well, except I did notice some kind of teeny tiny web around its leaves the other day and I have no idea what it is or if it is harmful to the plant! Eeek! I hope it is okay.

The hardware on this console table is so pretty! However, I’m removing the traces of light blue in here and think I can change out the tassels for a dark gray or black. Or, I may even put the original ring pull hardware back on it. The fun thing about hardware is that it’s not permanent! It’s a relatively easy and inexpensive way to really change the look of your furniture.

My faux bamboo chippendale stools flanking the console table are really here because they won’t fit at the kitchen island! When I got them, they were used at our breakfast nook table in a set of four. Now, our island only has space for two, the other pair is here for overflow. I mentioned in my kitchen renovation posts that I am contemplating what kind of fabric I’d like to upholster them with next.

Here is the true state of our dining room at the moment! ;) I have jut received a new shipment of heavy duty string lighting that I’m planning to use outdoors! Hopefully in the next week or two I’ll have all of the hardware I need to create a cozy little spot on the deck until we get a covered dock! It’s going to be a few months, so I wanted an expensive space to enjoy in the meantime. There are also life jackets tossed on the floor because our outdoor shed needs hooks and the laundry room where I was storing them is under construction too! More on that later! :D

I hope you’ve been making the best of your quarantine situation, whatever that may be!

Sending Sunshine,

Jessica
