Christmas Decor Theme Ideas {and How to Easily Change Yours!}

If you follow along on Instagram, you have probably heard that I’m pretty sad about the fact that we are in limbo between houses as we wait on the renovations to be completed in the new house and try to pare down all of the things that won’t be coming with us in the move from our current house. That means that I only have ONE Christmas tree up this year, and she is still naked! :( Granted, she’s quite lovely in her birthday suit because King of Christmas trees are just as beautiful undecorated as they are filled with decorations! Their branches are puffy and full and they don’t take a whole lot of fluffing and filling with ornaments to get them to look good. But I’ve digressed, so back to the topic at hand!

The topic today is how you can completely change the theme of your Christmas decor just by switching out your accents, as shown in the mood boards I’ve created below. It also includes how I would be decorating our new home for Christmas, in the off chance that we actually get moved in before Christmas day! I actually love all of these designs and would definitely try each of them out in the future!

I’ll start with the vision I had for our Christmas decor. In my last post I (like to think) I coined the term “Modern Vintage Nautical Charm” as a way to describe the look of our interior decor. I found this affordable craft rope online and thought it would make the perfect nautical garland! I would probably order at least two of these and drape the rope like a garland evenly around the tree. It would also make for a fun open stairway banister garland. You could attach pine swags and starfish where the rope meets the railing for an even more coastal/nautical look. If I had a stairway, I would totally show you! Lol! But I hope you can use your imagination for this idea.

Also made from rope are the tree collar and the knot door weight.

Vintage brass and shiny metal tones play well with the more modern black accents in this design. BLACK. Can you believe it? Haha! I’m really getting out of my comfort zone with these dark colors, but change is fun! And after all, they are easy to change out if you are over them next year. ;)

Since this nautical theme was fun to work with, I opted for a traditionally coastal color like navy blue for the next mood board. You just cannot go wrong with navy…amiright!?

Etsy has such an amazing selection of handmade doormats, wall signs, and Christmas decor, so it was really fun sifting through all of the creative and silly phrases on these mats. Last year, I used this “Holly Jolly” doormat from Nickel Designs on my front porch (you can check out the post here) because I always say I get a case of the “holly jollies” very early on each year (ya know, like decorating for Christmas in October).

Lastly, I just had to have some classical Christmas fun with red, green, tartan and warm textures! What I love about the fur and knitted pillows and throws, is that they will morph into the perfect winter decor after the holiday season is over. If you’re in a snowy state, you can pretty much leave them out til March!

I think my favorite part of the Classic Christmas Decor design is the “You Serious, Clark?” mat. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is definitely one of my favorite Christmas movies to watch every year! Speaking of which, check out the items below if you’re a fan too! Cracking up over some of these!

For the reasons above, I still love keeping a mostly neutral palette in my home. When the mood strikes, I can easily pick a new accent color and shop sales on pillow covers, throws and maybe a rug or two, to completely overhaul my decor theme!

Now tell me, are you a fan of switching things up, too? Which theme is your favorite?

Sending Sunshine!

Jessica
