All in Makeover
I recently refreshed our dining room with a few new pieces that invoke a laid back, coastal feeling by way of natural textures and neutrals. I’m really happy with how it turned out and can’t wait to show you! I’ll also show you what it looked like before…
I finally revamped our guest bedroom just in time for Christmas! I was pretty indecisive about this space for a while and I think the fact that I started decorating it in the fall influenced some of my decisions. You’ll see what I mean when you check out the color scheme. ;)
To start, I’ll show you what this room looked like from before we renovated it and after we moved in.
In my last post, I went through all of the updates we made to our kitchen since we bought our home. Although the new countertops, modern backsplash and lighter flooring really opened up the space, there was one more thing on my list that would completely change the look of our kitchen: Paint!
The warm light just before sunset was so lovely the other evening that I had to get out my camera and snap a few pics. Of course, Miss Summer happily obliged when I asked her to sit in on my mini photo shoot in our new office/guest room. (Sans collar because the those colors just don’t go with my neutral decor.) ;)
Our guest bathroom is going to be so FUN! I’m super excited about the tile, lighting, mirror…and, well, all of it! I realized at the very last minute that my husband and I were approaching FOUR years since the day we moved into our home! Since today is our four year “home ownerversary” I decided this would be a great opportunity to share with you how much our home has changed. It’s always fun to take a little walk down memory lane, isn’t it? I also want to highlight how so many of the changes we’ve made to our home are incredibly simple, not that costly, and mostly just involve new styling, but I’ll do that in some upcoming posts! I get lots of questions about my interior wall color, so I’m going to explain how I chose it and offer a bit of insight after having lived with it for over 3 years now! I chose to use the same paint color throughout the entire house because when we moved in the plethora of wall colors made it seem like the walls were closing in on us and the semi-open floor plan really called for some consistency in color. My vision for our house was for it to feel open, airy and for goodness sake to have all of the rooms flow together!

I never really thought much about having a home office until I started my blog. I began using my laptop all the time and I got tired of seeing it on the kitchen desk counter. We have a built-desk in the kitchen which just ends up being a catch all for mail, bills, etc. You know how that goes, right?
Bar cart, bar cart, everyone wants a bar cart! Including me! I've looked for over a year at all kinds of fabulous carts - brass, glass, bamboo, wooden, metal, two-tiered, round, square, you name it! Through all those choices, I had my heart set on a vintage bamboo cart. But have you seen those price tags!? Even the informed sellers of Craigslist knew they had a rare gem that could easily be refurbished, and the price tag was proof of that knowledge.
While I didn't want to do a full bathroom remodel, I did want to get rid of the brown wood cabinet stain that seemed to darken our guest bathroom. Since I was feeling lazy, er, efficient, I decided to try out chalk paint on the cabinets in hopes of skipping the whole sanding step that wasn't very appealing to me. I'm happy to report that it worked and I haven't seen a single scratch or chip in the year since it's been painted!
If you follow me on Instagram, you're probably already privy to my need for always getting the best deal ever. So, you may notice this is a recurring theme with each of my blog posts, as well. Since I really enjoy online window shopping (is that a thing?), I'm already aware of what certain items are priced at, from high end stores to bargain shops. Knowing what a "good deal" actually is, is key to getting one. Secondly, patience is most definitely a virtue, especially when it comes to decorating on a budget. I should also mention that this "budget" I keep referencing is usually all in my head.
Our dining room has come a long way from the dark and bland cave that it was when we moved in! (Want to see a great "before and after"? Click here.) As far as I'm concerned, it's not a finished project, but an evolving work in progress that morphs with the seasons - or a rainy Saturday when I get the itch to switch things up.
I pinned it, I stalked it, I envisioned it. Now, I just had to find it!! An over-sized, round mirror, that is, to go above the console table in our foyer. For months I sifted through online sales, perusing every round mirror that ever existed. The moment I thought I had found "the one", I would read the details only to discover that the mirror was puny.
